One of the great things about our 2012 season is the number and variety of new vendors we’ll have each week. Today we’d like to feature Pleitez Produce, one of our two new produce vendors at the Columbia Heights Community Marketplace. We’ll be featuring our other new vendors in upcoming posts, too.
Astrid Pleitez and her family, which have more than 15 years of farming experience, grow a wide variety of vegetables and herbs on 50 acres in the heart of Westmoreland County, Virginia. They have seven greenhouses and regularly grow veggies in five of them, which means lots of great food early and late in the season.
What will Pleitez Produce bring to opening day on the Civic Plaza? Why, all of the below:
Asparagus, strawberries, greenhouse cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, greenhouse tomatoes, radishes, lettuces (red and green), romaine, red and green leaf lettuce, curly red and green kale, lacinto kale, Tuscan kale, spinach (green and red), collards, swiss chard, fennel, beets, purple top spinach, purple top and white turnips, sugar snap peas, snow peas, English peas, garlic, cilantro, spring onions, dill, purple and green kohlrabi, zucchini, different mixed squashes, baby basil, oregano, mint. (Whew!)
Check out the pictures they sent us of what’s growing on the farm this week:
