Thanksgiving is the most important “food day” of the year, and food is something that we care a lot about at Columbia Heights Community Marketplace! And this year we’re raising money so that neighborhood families most in need can have a happier and healthier Thanksgiving – by shopping for their Thanksgiving dinner at the Columbia Heights farmers market.
Each season we give out thousands of dollars in matching funds for people shopping at the market using nutritional assistance programs. But the demand always exceeds our ability to provide these funds, and this year we ran out of matching funds earlier than ever. That’s why we are raising money now, and our goal is to raise $2,500 to give 50 families in need $50 to spend at the market on their Thanksgiving dinner.
We also like to think of this as a win-win, because the money will go directly to the farmers and small businesses that make our market the best place to shop for local, sustainable food in Washington, DC.
Please donate today via our project page on Indiegogo. Give the gift of good food today and help make a difference this Thanksgiving!
