Contest: your favorite Labor Day recipes wanted!

Aug28
2012
Written by Jessica Luna, CHCM Board Member

It’s hard to believe that summer is nearly at its end, but Labor Day is just around the corner. The season of tomatoes, summer squash, basil, etc. is in full swing. Seems there’s more at market these days than ever before.

We’d like to hear what you’re doing with summer’s bounty- the dishes you’re making with market ingredients- and we’ve got a prize to say thanks for sharing your seasonal creations with us!

Post your favorite Labor Day recipe using at least one ingredient you’ve bought at the Columbia Heights farmers market and enter to win a trendy “No Farms, No Food” cap! Whether it’s an original recipe or simply a photo of your creation and a link/credit to the original author, to be eligible you must note which ingredient(s) come from CHCM (and if possible which CHCM farm/vendor).

Entries can be:
1. Tweeted (@chfestivus)
2. Posted on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/chfestivus)
3. Posted on our blog via the “comment” feature below.

Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, September 5th at midnight!

To get your creative juices flowing, the Washington Post has 20 labor-day recipes. You’re probably going to buy tomatoes this weekend (bruschetta on an Upper Crust baguette? Perhaps alongside Picnic Gourmet dips?). Will you cook with with red peppers from Chesley Farm, or take a summer salad to a friend’s cookout using Licking Creek herbs? Either way, read this week’s market update so you know what to grab!

For the remainder of the season, we hope to offer more prizes for those who share their CHCM-inspired meals. Get those recipe books and those cameras (or iPhones/iPads/blackberries…) ready!

What delicious creation can you make with these?
